How to Measure for Edge Trim Selection
Before purchasing your edge trim, you should accurately measure the edge of your substrate. Take the following measurements to select the right edge trim:
- The thickness of the edge you’re adding trim to (your substrate).
- The minimum bend radius your substrate requires
- The leg length, or the length of trim that will wrap down the edge
Tips for Installing Trim
Once you’ve purchased the correct edge trim, use these tips to install it properly:
- Use the proper cutting tool: edge trim clippers.
- When cutting, feel for the gap between the aluminum or steel clips embedded in the plastic to avoid crushing the trim.
- To make high-volume installations go faster, use a pneumatic hammer.
- If your trim will wrap around a sharp 90-degree angle, use a miter tool to perfectly miter the edge trim. This is not possible with tin snips or other tools.
- To reduce separations between trim ends caused by inevitable plastic shrinkage, leave more material in the loop and push your trim ends together, as you push the loop down. This forces more material into the application, eliminating stretching and the need for glue.
Now that you’re ready to measure, select, and install trim, find the right edge trim for your need.
